Venison Cookbook Update
Volume 1 of the Hunting Widow’s Guide to Great Venison Cooking is getting close to ready. It’s so exciting to watch it come together. My sister-in-law, with the aid of my good friend, shot the cover this past weekend. Now it’s up to my amazing graphic designer/sister. The interior of the book is beautiful. I can’t wait for people to see it. My only challenge now is that I have about 15 recipes I’ve made since finishing the book that I kind of want to put in there. I guess I need to do a volume 2…
Holy Cow! Meat is Expensive
I can’t remember the last time we purchased beef. It’s been at least six months. With all the venison we eat, we have no need to eat beef (although I do love it). So yesterday Rick needed to pick up some ground beef for dinner with the family because we didn’t have enough ground venison (sure, we had some in the freezer, but he didn’t feel like pulling out the grinder again).
He should have! 93% lean ground beef was $4.59/lb. He didn’t look at the price, so was shocked when the total cost at the register was $13.
We figure, based on that price (which isn’t even tenderloin prices) that we save at least $1,200/year on food. That’s something to cheer about!
Free Deer Recipes for Hunting Season
Hunting season is almost here! That means freezers everywhere will start filling up with deer meat. And that’s a good thing. The question is, what are you going to do with your deer meat? For the past several years, I’ve been collecting and testing deer cooking recipes and posting them on this web site for free. So look around. There’s something for everyone!
